New York Jets are in a troubling situation to say the least and the worst thing head coach Rex Ryan can do is hide from that fact.
But guess what? That is exactly what Rex Ryan has done with his latest ridiculous comments about Jets' starting quarterback Geno Smith and the rest of his Gang Green troops.
Known for crazy statements
Rex Ryan is well know for his insane statements after he once predicted the Jets to win the Super Bowl during the pre-season.
Of course that prediction came on the back of consecutive trips to the AFC Championship Game. Back then it did actually seem that it was a matter of time for the Jets, much like the Broncos at the start of this season.
But things change and so has Rex Ryan's confidence - three seasons without making the playoffs will do that to you. But even though Ryan may be willing to admit defeat in coaching contests, he has certainly not given up on brown-nosing his GM in what is likely to be Ryan's last season in the Big Apple baring a spectacular turnaround.
Speaking about GM John Idzik's pick in recent draft's for the Jets, Ryan told the New York Post, “You’ve got Geno Smith, a starting quarterback in this league that I think has upside,” Ryan said. “So, that’s a great pick.”
Ryan's time is up
When it comes down to it, Ryan wants his job and it seems he will do pretty much anything to keep it.
But saying that Geno Smith is an NFL starter is a stretch beyond belief. Not even the Jacksonville Jaguars would employ Geno Smith as their starring QB. And Oakland Raiders starter Derek Carr has shown more poise than Geno has this season.
What we have to remember is that the Jets defense is amazing. And an average QB could take them to the playoffs. But Geno is below average and not a 'great pick' like Rex Ryan so foolishly stated on Monday.
Rex Ryan's time with the Jets is running out and he's getting even more desperate as each day passes.
