Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict is under review by the NFL this week following a brace of controversial tackles against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon, Yahoo Sports reports.
Tackles against Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and tight end Greg Olsen incurred the wrath of Carolina with a number of their players accusing Burfict of deliberately setting out to injure his opponents on the field.
Olsen urged the NFL to take action against the linebacker in the aftermath of the Week Six contest.

Evidence mounting up
Two incidents in particular drew derision from Panthers players and fans alike. First, a tackle on Carolina quarterback Cam Newton in which Burfict seems to target and twist Newton's recently operated on ankle despite the QB having already reached the end zone.
The second 'tackle', this time on Olsen sees Burfict employ a similar tactic - again targeting an area of his opponent that was already known to be a weak point through injury.
Olsen was clearly furious with what he had had to endure out on the grid iron, telling reporters:
"At some point, if the NFL wants to really say they care about guys' safety, they've got to start putting guys out for weeks.
"Me and Cam are lucky we aren't out for weeks."
Olsen went into further detail on Burfict specifically with Bill Voth of the Black and Blue Review:
I think instances like that, that are so clearly premeditated that he had in his mind if those opportunities (arise), that he was going to try to attack not only guys' legs, but guys who were coming off ankle problems specifically, there's no room for it."
Olsen's opinion was backed up by his teammates this week via social media.
Not the first time
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis may have laughed of the actions of his linebacker, claiming those sort of tactics were more common in the "WWF", but Burfict has previous when it comes to on-field misdemeanours.
The 2013 Pro Bowler was been fined by the NFL in 2013 for hitting a defenseless receiver and striking an opponent in the groin during a game against the Green Bay Packers.
And back in his college days with Arizona State Burfict was benched by his coach for persistent personal fouls.
It is believed that the NFL will have a decision on any punishment for the linebacker by Thursday.
