Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has allegedly assaulted a female journalist after a recent training session for the Nigerian national side, reports the Metro.

It's been suggested that the Blues midfielder lashed out at a reporter from KISS FM in Abuja, as he was approached after the session whilst on international duty.

It appears, then, that Mikel became irritated after the reporter asked him about Nigeria’s up-coming fixtures. It's also been stated that the Chelsea man has been forgiven for his actions.

Regarding the incident, BBC broadcaster Oluwashina Okeleji tweeted: "A female journalist has claimed #Nigeria's Mikel Obi assaulted her after training on Monday, when she approached him for an interview.

"The journalist, who works for Kiss FM in Abuja, said she's forgiven Mikel Obi after the assault, according to team media officer Ben Alaiya."

Of course, there are two sides to every story, with the midfielder yet to respond to the claims against him.

Chelsea return

With the international break coming to an end, Blues boss Jose Mourinho will be hoping that the midfielder will be fully focussed on the side's up coming fixture list. Chelsea are next in action this weekend as they travel to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace, as they look to continue their flying start to the Premier League season.

Mourinho's side are unbeaten after their opening seven league fixtures and currently hold a five point lead over last year's champions Manchester City.

Mikel, then, will be hoping to star for the Blues this weekend, but it remains to be seen as to whether he can dislodge the likes of Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas in the side. The midfielder will certainly be hoping that this incident is quickly brushed aside so he can concentrate on club football. It looks set to be an interesting couple of weeks for the Nigerian at Stamford Bridge.
