In the world of boxing, there is only one fight left that every fan wants to see. Mayweather v Pacquiao.

Before Mayweather retires at the end of his six-fight deal with showtime, it looks as though the fight fans have been after for years, could happen.

As we reported last week, Mayweather's father and trainer has guaranteed that the fight will take place saying "its a fight for the world" and that "it's the biggest fight that's ever been."

So finally we could be treated to a fight that has been mere speculation for the past five years or so and no one is more deserving that the Filipino veteran after a stellar career.

However, there is one fighter, who for some reason believes that he deserves a shot against Mayweather ahead of anyone else. Enter, Amir Khan.

Khan spoke to Fight Hype in reaction to Stephen A Smith's comments, who on Monday said that Khan was not in the same league as Mayweather and that no one was interested in seeing that fight:

"In my opinion, Amir Khan is not in Floyd Mayweather’s class. He doesn’t belong in the same boxing ring as Floyd Mayweather. He didn’t pay the dues that Floyd Mayweather paid. He doesn’t have a flawless record, displayed by Danny Garcia beating him to a pulp with a TKO victory in four rounds just a couple of years back.....When you talk about a premiere fight for boxing fans to see, we don’t give a damn about Amir Khan when it comes to who we want to see in the ring with Floyd Mayweather Jr."

Khan believes that he deserves a shot and that previous records should not determine the number one contender:

"No disrespect, I understand he [Smith] may want to see that fight, but if there are reasons why that fight isn't going to happen, there is no need to put me down."

Khan also rubbished criticism from Smith of his fight against Garcia, and said that fighters who have already fought Mayweather and lost, shouldn't get a look in when it comes to who fights the champ next:

"I wasn't knocked out. I was on my feet, but then you have got Manny Pacquiao, who's been knocked out cold [against Marquez] and you guys are saying he should be next in line?......I've fought and beat guys like Kotelnik, Paulie Malignaggi and Madiana, who fought Mayweather twice and everyone was like 'yeah, he [Maidana] has got a great chance.....I've already beaten a guy that Mayweather just fought and put him down as well.......Look, Floyd is not the biggest puncher, so I know he's not going to hurt me, but can he out-box me? I'm younger, I'm faster and I box better than Manny Pacquiao."

Khan makes some valid points, he does deserve a shot over some fighters, especially fighters that Mayweather has already seen off, however if Khan thinks he deserves the fight more than Manny Pacquiao, he is wrong.

Khan is due to next fight in December and you never know, if he wins that fight (supposedly against Robert Guerrero) he still could get a shot against Mayweather, after all, he has two fights left, not one.
