Last weekend, we all saw it, and we all laughed about it. The moment when LeBron James appeared to set a pick on his teammate Matt Dellavedova in the Cavs preseason encounter with his old team, Miami.
The Cavs won in overtime and James had an okay night overall, however he exited early, unsurprisingly, with it being a preseason fixture. He put up seven points and eight assists in 21 minutes.
It was a nothing incident
Regarding the incident with Dellavedova, LeBron has spoken out and has denied the accusations that he 'deliberately set a pick on his teammate' and he 'forgot what team he was on.'
“For non-basketball people, our coverage is for me to show and for Delly [Dellavedova] to go under me and we just didn’t get the call right at the time. Delly was supposed to slide under me and we kind of ran into each other.......So, for non-basketball people, they like to critique everything that I do. It’s stupid.”
Dellavedova also talked about the incident and he held the same tune as LeBron, via ESPN:
"Didn't even realize. Just a normal basketball play. My family sent me the link of it. He just showed out [on the ball handler] and I just needed to go under. So, it wasn't really anything. I mean, you know how the media can get, right? It's obviously more crazy with anything involving LeBron."
LeBron has forgiven Gilbert
Another hot topic was how James managed to repair his relationship with Cavs owner Dan Gilbert, who called him out in a public letter on the teams website back in 2010:
"How did I forgive? I'm a man. Men, we all make mistakes. As a man, if you got a problem with somebody, you sit down face to face and you talk to them eye to eye. And you hash it out and move on. So, I think a lot of things that go on in life or in sports with people kind of holding grudges is because they're afraid to actually take a step forward."
Very mature from James, would have have taken that stance as a 23 year old? Probably not. However with James happy to be back and the likes of Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving all on the same page, Cavs fans have a lot to look forward to for the coming season.
With preseason games all a bit patchy with regards to minutes the fans haven't seen Cleveland at their full potential but when they all start to get some proper game time under their belt and Kyrie Irving comes back from injury we should start to see the Cleveland Cavaliers that are expected to flourish this year.
