Louis van Gaal has been blasted for his treatment of starlet Adnan Januzaj, with the Manchester United youngster’s agent accusing the Dutch coach of blanking the player and playing him when he wasn’t fit.
Januzaj was once of the bright spots of a dismal season under David Moyes last term. The Old Trafford club could only finish seventh in the Premier League, but there was huge optimism about the 19-year-old’s future after he broke onto the scene.
However, this has not carried on into the reign of Van Gaal, who was appointed as the new boss after Moyes was sacked and legend Ryan Giggs was put in charge for the final handful of games.
Januzaj has made only six substitute appearances so far this season and has seen the likes of new arrival Angel di Maria, Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney placed ahead of him in the pecking order and he has only just played the equivalent of two full matches.
The embarrassing 4-0 Capital One Cup defeat to MK Dons early in the season was pointed out by the Belgian’s agent as a crucial point in Van Gaal’s judgement, though he claimed Janusaj was not even ready for the match.
the talent he showed last season is not going to disappear because he has been left out of the team for a few games
"That Adnan had to prove himself for Louis van Gaal in that match is nonsense,” Dirk de Vries is quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
"After an elbow in training Adnan's mouth was ripped open and he was under antibiotics and really should not have played.
"But after twenty minutes Shinji Kagawa is injured and Adnan suddenly need to play. Then it makes sense that you do not play your best game ever.”
Despite the disappointing start to his season, there are still high hopes for Januzaj and the talent he showed last season is not going to disappear because he has been left out of the team for a few games.
Every person who has watched him is aware of the potential and he has been linked with moves to several of Europe’s top clubs if Van Gaal decides to dispense with him.
