Manchester United are set to offer Real Madrid star Sami Khedira a huge deal in order to bring him to Old Trafford.
This has been reported by the Daily Star, who have suggested that the Red Devils could hand Khedira as much as £200,000-a-week in order to complete a move to the Premier League.
In fact, it's been suggested that the Red Devils could offer the German international a pre-contract deal ahead of a summer move, or even tempt him to the club in the January transfer window.
Manchester United may still have to battle Premier League duo Arsenal and Chelsea for the player's signature, but it appears that the Old Trafford outfit could now be leading the race for the tough tackling Real Madrid man.
Chelsea and Arsenal would seemingly not be prepared to match United's huge contract offer for the player, meaning he could become Van Gaal's latest signing at the club.
Khedira, of course, is out of contract at the Bernabeu at the end of the season, and has struggled for opportunities under Carlo Ancelotti this season.
If he was to join United, then, it appears that Van Gaal would be ready to make him United's main man in the middle of the park. The Red Devils have struggled in the centre of midfield in recent time, but improved in that department this past summer after landing Spanish ace Ander Herrera and versatile Dutchman Daley Blind.
The German star, though, would give Van Gaal another option in the midfield role, as he could break play up in the middle of the park to help begin attacks. Khedira would add vital experience to the club's midfield, and may well want to play in the same side as former teammate Angel di Maria once again.
Manchester United's immediate attention will turn to tonight's Premier League clash with West Brom as the Red Devils look to secure their third straight victory with a win at the Hawthorns.
