Football News

John Cena has been around the WWE long enough to recognize when a fellow wrestler has made an impact on the company.

So, while his recent comments on absent superstar CM Punk may not be echoed by the likes of Vince McMahon following the latter's acrimonious split earlier this year, you cannot help but take Cena's word as read.

Friends in high places

Answering a question on CM Punk's inclusion in the upcoming WWE 2K15 video game, John Cena was more than happy to admit the influence Punk made on the organization itself prior to his official departure in July.

"Whether he's here or not, he's certainly left a mark in WWE," Cena explains in an interview with 'Fighting Spirit'

The 2015 version of the popular video game allows fans to relive the famous feuds between Cena and Punk between 2011 and 2013, and Cena backed the move despite the unfortunate exit for his former opponent in the ring:

"He's got to be in the game, and it's cool that that moment is not forgotten."

Not an easy decision

CM Punk's inclusion in the game has certainly drawn praise from the WWE Universe who haven't been able to see the Chicago native in real-life action since January. The move hasn't come without its own issues however.

Whether it was WWE muting chants of CM Punk's name on their network coverage of a WWE 2K15 reveal event, or Punk's legal team reportedly sending a letter to the WWE hierarchy to complain about the continued use of Punk's resemblance without proper payment, the process has not been a smooth one.

Punk's legacy

With Punk's continued absence in the WWE starting to grate on some fans it is easy to forget his role within the company.

His effortless ability on the mic, coupled with his indy-influenced style and never-say-die attitude in the ring left him a firm fans favorite in arenas across the country.

His feuds with the king of the babyfaces John Cena will go down in history and the latter is right to commend him for his role in the WWE's recent history.
