Premier League side, Arsenal, are set to renew their interest in Napoli striker, Gonzalo Higuain, in January, as Arsene Wenger eyes more attacking power.

The Metro reports that the Gunners were originally interested in the Argentine back in the Summer of 2013, but stalled on the move after wanting Liverpool striker, Luis Suarez, instead.

However, after being told no by Liverpool, Wenger then missed out on signing Higuain as Napoli moved quickly and wrapped up a deal worth £32million.

After leaving Real Madrid for Napoli, Higuain became a real hit in Italy and scored plenty of goals during his Serie A debut, and after the impressive debut season, Higuain is now wanted by a few clubs around Europe.

Wanted Man

During the Summer World Cup, Higuain's Argentine team-mate, Lionel Messi, was trying to persuade the forward to come back to Spain and join FC Barcelona, despite his Madrid days.

However, after returning from Brazil, Higuain revealed his intentions to stay in Italy.

After Barcelona's interest, it was reported that Liverpool were keen on signing the 26-year-old, as they eyed a suitable replacement for Luis Suarez, who had left for Barca.

Napoli were keen on keeping hold of their star-striker, and they rejected all approaches from Brendan Rodgers, but after continuing his fine form, Arsenal are now re-interested in the forward.

Renewed Interest

Arsene Wenger is keen to add more firepower to his side, despite signing Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck, and Higuain could be his main target in January.

The Frenchman, who has also been linked with Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain, is ready to make a move for the Argentine in the New Year, and is hopeful he can wrap up a deal for the striker.

Poor Start

Napoli have struggled in the new year, only winning three of their first seven games, and it was reported that Higuain could be looking for an exit from the club.

Benitez's side are also already out of the Champions League, which also left Higuain frustrated.
