Brendan Rodgers will be hoping for a big performance from Mario Balotelli after naming the Italian striker as a starter against Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti is without Welsh winger Gareth Bale, but can call upon both Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema as the La Liga outfit look to go nine points from nine games.

Team Sheet reaction

No surprises at Anfield, with Steven Gerrard leading Liverpool out against a Madrid side packed full of talent going forward.

Rodgers will hope his tricky wide players can get at the La Liga side's full-backs however, and Sterling has the pace to cause either Arbeloa or Marcelo problems. Pepe is also a potential weak link in the Madrid defence.

However, they have World Cup superstar James Rodriguez and Spanish playmaker Isco supporting the big two, whilst Luka Modric is capable of unlocking any defence - even one that boasts Glen Johnson.
