Cristiano Ronaldo showed once again why he’s regarded as one of the best players in world football last night with a stunning opener for Real Madrid against Liverpool in the Champions League.

The Portuguese superstar is now one-goal short of the all-time competition record with 70. Raul sits just ahead of him, whilst Barcelona rival Lionel Messi is one behind on 69.

After being relatively well-shackled in the early exchanges, the former Manchester United winger dropped off the ball James Rodriguez around 30-yards from goal and set off on a run into the box.

The Colombian produced a fine chip into the box, but there was still plenty to do as centre back Martin Skrtel appeared to have the situation under control.
