On the eve of the biggest fixture in club football, one of the greatest warriors in the game, Cristiano Ronaldo, has revealed exactly which armour he will be donning.

Of course we’re talking about Real Madrid vs Barcelona in this season’s first El Clasico, and when we say armour we’re referring to Ronaldo’s boots. Ever the trend-setter, the Portuguese forward has revealed he will be pulling on the brand-spanking new Nike CR7 Mercurial Superfly boots when Madrid take on their eternal rivals.

The all-black number might contrast will the all white Ronaldo and co. will be dressed in from head to toe, but it will be a surprise indeed if they detrimentally affect the player’s form. Madrid’s No.7 has been nothing short of lethal recently and, as he proved so expertly against Liverpool last night, virtually everything he touches seems to turn to gold.

The 30-year-old forward will arguably be facing his biggest challenge yet this season as he seeks to build on a record which has seen him net 20 times in just 13 appearances across all competitions, but his irresistible ability has punters believing he can navigate the likes of Marc Bartra and Gerard Pique without too much hassle.

Barcelona's weapon

Of course Barcelona have a notable weapon of their own in Lionel Messi, who is doing everything humanly possible to keep up with his Madrid counterpart, and the diminutive Argentine has never been one to be upstaged.

On top of that there’s the backup option of Luis Suarez, who could well make a spectacular Barca bow amongst the throng of excitement in the cauldron which is the Santiago Bernabeu. In any case, it’s sure to be a contest capable of shock and awe in abundance.

All eyes regardless will be on Ronaldo though, who has for the first time in his life started to put light between himself and Mesis when it comes to the undying question of who is better. The man himself will certainly be hoping those black boots don’t forebode a troubling u-turn.
