Liverpool look set to bring Birmingham City winger Demarai Gray to Anfield in the January transfer window, according to the Metro.
It's been reported that the Reds are set to beat Tottenham to the race for the player's signature because of a special clause that has been set up in his contract.
In fact, it's been suggested that the Merseyside outfit have the option to sign him, which looks set to help the club complete the deal in the next transfer window. It appears that the clause was struck when Brendan Rodgers' side allowed Jordan Ibe to join Birmingham on loan last term.
Gray is extremely highly rated, and has even been compared to current Reds ace Raheem Sterling.
Sterling, of course, has gone from strength-to-strength at Anfield in recent time, and is even now a regular for the England national side. Gray, meanwhile, has already starred at Under-19 level for the Three Lions as he continues to prove his credentials in the Championship.
It appears, then, that Liverpool are ready to hand Birmingham as much as £2 million in order to secure the 18-year-old's signature, but it remains to be seen as to whether Rodgers hands him a first-team role in the near future.
Champions League nightmare
The Reds will currently be trying to get over their thumping 3-0 defeat at the hands of Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid last night. A goal from Cristiano Ronaldo and a brace from Frenchman Karim Benzema were enough for the current holders to ease to victory at Anfield.
Liverpool, then, will be hoping to bounce back in style as they play host to Hull City this weekend. Already as much as nine points behind table-toppers Chelsea, Rodgers' side will be determined to secure all three points in front of their own fans on Saturday afternoon.
Reds fans will certainly be hoping to see Sterling in action against Hull, with Gray potentially challenging him for a starting spot in the future.
