Chelsea and Manchester City are the two favourites for the Premier League title, I think everyone will agree, but are they the only contenders?
Well, based on the performances of other regulars in contention for the title you would have to say so. Manchester United, even with the embarrassment of riches they have in attack, look like they won't come close due to their defensive shortcomings.
- Chelsea might be forced to start Didier Drogba up front against United
- Chelsea already look favourites to win the Premier League

Lack of contenders
Liverpool seem like they're in for the same sort of season having, so far, failed to produce anything like the form they did last season so far. You'd have to say that's down to the departure of Luis Suarez and also due to the recruitment's brought in by Brendan Rodgers.
£16 million signing Mario Balotelli has been a huge flop so far, having yet to find the net domestically since his return to the Premier League, and committing some horrible misses along the way.
Arsenal are maybe the only team who can even compete with the top two, they proved they can battle it out against the best in the league after they held Man City to a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium.
Even so, they just seem to lack that power in the core of their starting 11 and also poor depth in squad considering what is required to be at the top when it comes to the end of the season.
Chelsea have such strength in every area of the pitch, from their keeper Thibaut Courtois, all the way through to their inform striker Diego Costa, who looks like he can emulate Didier Drogba and become a legend at the club.
Over to Manchester City, who like Chelsea, have amazing talent all the way through the team, and if Yaya Toure is having an off day, then Sergio Aguero or someone else will step up.
Saying this, people seem to be dismissing City in the title race.
But we must remember they are the reigning champions and most of their players have won the league and been in this situation before.
Then you look at Chelsea's team who only have John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic in the starting 11 that have won the Premier League, so you could argue that Manchester City have more experience in this field therefore giving them an advantage.
So, back to original question, are Chelsea and Manchester City the only title contenders? Yes, I believe they are, but in the Premier League you never know what surprises it can muster up.
