Mesut Ozil has provided Arsenal with a timely injury boost after posting a picture of him weight training for the first time since tearing a knee ligament.
The German Football Federation sent Ozil back from international duty after discovering the extent of the injury and suggested he could miss the rest of 2014. However, upon there own assessment of the injury, Arsenal declared that he could be back in as little as six weeks.
And it appears the playmaker, who cost Arsenal £42.4 million last summer, is doing everything he can to return to fitness as soon as possible. Ozil\'s latest Instagram post shows him lifting weights while his Arsenal teammates recovered from their 2-1 victory over Anderlecht.
"I'm relieved about yesterday's victory but nevertheless these weights feel heavy on my shoulders..."
Ozil was obviously unavailable for the Champions League group game, which saw Arsenal score two last gasp goals to grab an unlikely victory in Belgium. The 26-year-old said he was relieved his Gunners teammates kept in charge of their European campaign.
He posted: "I'm relieved about yesterday's victory but nevertheless these weights feel heavy on my shoulders..."
It is not all good news for Arsenal, however, as the post clearly highlights the severity of Ozil's injury. He may be lifting weights, but his left leg is completely strapped in a knee brace designed to speed up the recovery as much as possible.
So while Ozil may be on the comeback trail with hope of returning for the busy Christmas schedule, it is clear that he is still quite some way away from running again.
But Ozil would have enjoyed the distraction of returning to training after a hectic few weeks in both his professional and personal life. German newspaper Bild led with a story about Ozil have an affair with former Bayern Munich defender Christian Lell's girlfriend.
Ozil and his current girlfriend Mandy Capristo refused to respond to the allegations but speculation intensified after the German singer and songwriter deleted all photos of her and Ozil together off of her Instagram account.
