Julio Jones has Detroit Lions running scared

Football News

The Detroit Lions defense gets to go against the best wide receiver every week in practice. So with all those chances to test themselves against Calvin Johnson, you would be forgiven for wondering if the Lions secondary really feared anyone.

Fear the Speed

Well now we know they do, and in Atlanta Falcons wideout Julio Jones, they are going to be tested on every single down by a player who can be every bit as good as Megatron on his day.

On Thursday, at the Lions media day at their Bagshot base just outside of London ahead of the Wembley game, nearly every single Lions player and coach were asked about Julio and they revealed everything they know, and are worried by, of Jones.

Like a Giant Gazelle

Lions safety James Ihedigbo spoke about Jones, a man he will look to shutdown at Wembley.

"He’s built like a tight end and can run like a gazelle. I guess that would make it. He’s a pretty big guy, honestly. He’s 220, but he can run like a 4.3," Ihedigbo said of the former Alabama star. "He’s a fast, big target, has a big catch radius and Matt Ryan does a great job of getting him the ball in multiple situations. "

"Have you seen him? He’s big. He’s fast. He can catch. He can do just about anything, and that’s probably what makes him special"

Even Calvin Johnson had a few words to say about the only player that can match him in average yards per game since entering the league.

"Very talented, young, explosive, and physical receiver. Staying healthy, I would expect him in the next couple years to be one of the top two receivers in the league," Megatron said about the 25-year old.
