Rafael wants new Manchester United contract

Football News

Manchester United defender Rafael is keen to sit down with Old Trafford officials and discuss the possible renewal of his Red Devils contract. (

The Brazilian full-back has less than two years remaining on his current £60,000-a-week deal, and is eager to secure his long-term future with the Premier League giants.

However, Louis van Gaal is yet to be fully convinced by the 24-year-old, and is certainly in no rush to open negotiations with the defensive liability over an extension.

And, with Dani Alves linked with a possible move to Manchester United next summer, it remains to be seen whether the Dutch coach views Rafael as his long-term solution at right-back.

The South American has made over 100 first-team appearances for the Red Devils, but faces a make-or-break season to prove his worth to Van Gaal moving forward.
