Tottenham predicted line up v Brighton

Football News

Tottenham have defensive reinforcements for their League Cup fourth round tie against Brighton at White Hart Lane tonight.

Kyle Naughton is back in the squad, having recovered from an ankle injury suffered against Mauricio Pochettino's former side Southampton. That game was Tottenham's only win in their last seven league games.

Federico Fazio is also back from suspension as the Lilywhites seek to recover from the disappointing defeat at the weekend. Brighton may be lower league opposition but they will be sniffing an upset against a typically inconsistent Spurs.

Pochettino has used the cup competitions to give match time to players on the fringes of his preferred team, such as Paulinho, Roberto Soldado, summer signings Ben Davies and Benjamin Stambouli, and Andros Townsend.

However, after over three months in charge, Pochettino is beginning to evaluate who he rates and who he doesn't, and as the season progresses we can expect to see some players pushed into the cold and a core squad used in all competitions.

Harry Kane will hope to have another chance to show he is worthy of a league start, while several other players are fighting for their Spurs careers (perhaps not fighting hard enough).

Poor form

Aaron Lennon has found it difficult to get any time on the pitch in any competition and he may soon be joined by Paulinho and Vlad Chiriches as Tottenham's Argentine head coach cuts his losses on players he simply does not think are up to the required standard.
