It is now approaching the time of year where the Ballon d'Or nominations have been released. In light of that, here are my top five choices for Ballon d'Or.
5. Manuel Neuer
The Bayern Munich goalkeeper is one of the candidates for the Ballon D'Or. The German had a very good 2014, helping Bayern Munich to yet another Bundesliga and helped Germany to a fourth World Cup title.
If Neuer did win the Ballon D'Or, he would be become the second goalkeeper to ever win it, after the late Lev Yashin. After a very successful 2014, could Neuer lift the Ballon D'Or?
4. Thomas Muller
Yet another Bayern Munich and German player up for the Ballon D'Or is Thomas Muller. Similarly to Manuel Neuer, Muller had a very successful 2014.
His goalscoring prowess helped Bayern Munich to another Bundesliga title, and was the top scorer in 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where his nation won the tournament. Given his wonderful year, could Muller add the Ballon D'Or to his collection?

Brazilian forward Neymar is another player that could win the Ballon d'Or. After many decent performances in his debut season for Barcelona, Neymar continued his form in the 2014 World Cup with his native Brazil.
He was a spearhead in Brazil's march through the tournament. An injury cut his tournament short, and many wondered what could've been. Could Neymar win the Ballon d'Or this year?
2. Lionel Messi
4-time Ballon D'Or winner Lionel Messi is obviously one of the front runners for the Ballon D'Or. The 2013/14 season wasn't very successful for Barcelona, but Lionel Messi was the stand out player during the season.
Messi captained his country to the World Cup final, but lost out to Germany. His performances for Argentina enabled him to win the Golden Ball. Could this year be the year where Messi wins his 5th Ballon d'Or?
1. Cristiano Ronaldo
Real Madrid and Portuguese stalwart Cristiano Ronaldo is currently the bookmaker's favourite for the Ballon D'Or this year. His performances for Real Madrid led them to win 'La Decima'; their 10th Champions League title.
The 2014 World Cup saw Ronaldo's Portugal side crash out at the Group Stage. The current holder of the Ballon D'Or, could Cristiano Ronaldo win it in consecutive years?
