Sporting Lisbon are prepared to sell Portuguese midfielder William Carvalho, according to the Daily Star.
It's been suggested that Lisbon are looking to offload the highly rated midfielder while his market value remains high. In fact, Carvalho has a £37 million buyout clause in his contract with the Portuguese outfit, but recent reports have indicated that he could depart the club for around £28m.
It appears, then, that a number of the Premier League's elite clubs would have been put on alert by this latest development, with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal all seemingly interested in the player's signature.
It's not certain, however, as to whether Lisbon are prepared to let Carvalho go in the January transfer window or wait until next summer.
Who needs him?
There's no doubt about it, Carvalho would make an impact in a number of Premier League sides. Manchester United, who have been linked with the tough-tackling midfielder for some time, are certainly in need of improvement in the middle of the park.
Despite the summer signings of Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and Co., United have struggled to dictate play in recent time, and the signing of Carvalho could help them dominate football matches.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are also in need of a commanding presence in the midfield department. The likes of Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta and Co. could do with a power-house type player next to them in the middle of the park in north London.
While United and Arsenal are crying out for a player in the mould of Carvalho, Chelsea already have an array of talent in the midfield area, with Cesc Fabregas, Nemanja Matic and Co. plying their trade at Stamford Bridge. The potential signing of Carvalho, however, could be a clever one from Jose Mourinho as he targets long term success for the club.
It remains to be seen as to whether Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are prepared to splash the cash in order to bring him to England anytime soon.
