Arsenal fans waking up today thinking last night was a bad dream, you have some bad news coming - your side really did squander a 3-0 lead against Anderlecht last night.

While the 3-3 draw against the Belgians shouldn’t stop them from qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League, boss Arsene Wenger was furious with his team, saying he was ‘annoyed’ and 'disappointed’ afterwards.

"We had a poor defensive performance from the first until the last minute. We never looked comfortable and we got punished," said the Arsenal boss. "Annoyed? Yes. It is very disappointing. We were very poor."

He also admitted it was impossible for his side to win their group now with Borussia Dortmund well clear at the top.

"For winning the group, you can say that's nearly impossible now," added the Frenchman. In the Champions League you need to be at your best mentally and we weren't today. Maybe subconsciously we underestimated Anderlecht at 3-0."

Diaby days are over

It looks as though About Diary’s Arsenal career is coming to an end. He was once tipped as the man to replace Patrick Vieira but injuries have halted his career - now the Mail say he is unlikely to be offered a new contract when his current deal expires next year.

The Frenchman has made just over 30 appearances in the last four-and-a-half seasons, and it seems as though Arsenal have had about enough of waiting for him to stay fit for a prolonged period.

Now the Gunners are likely to intensify their search for a new defensive midfielder...

Wenger has been on the lookout for a defensive midfielder for some time, and today reports suggest that the man for the job could be Christop Kramer. The Mirror claim that the German international is valued at £12 million, and could be targeted in the new year.

Pain in the Merse

And finally we’ll give the last word to Paul Merson - he’s hit out at Arsene Wenger after the 3-3 draw last night - branding him clueless. "If I'm being honest, I think they're tactically clueless," said the former Arsenal man. That's an honest opinion. How you can be 3-0 up and be attacking? This is not the first time it's happened, this happens a lot of times. It's absolutely clueless.

"The manager has got to get a message on. You're playing with international footballers. These are not little kids, they've played in World Cups, a lot of Premier League games.
'They're all bombing forward. Surely something in your head, if you know football, you say, "Right, lets stop here, lets have two banks of four, two up front, and we'll go from there. Let them break us down." As football knowledge, it's clueless, absolutely clueless.'
