Manchester United are showing interest in signing Inter Milan defender Nemanja Vidic, despite the Serbian leaving Old Trafford just a few months ago on a free transfer, according to Metro.
The ex-United skipper saw his contract expire at the English giants, and after entering the final few months of his deal he agreed a deal in principle with the Serie A outfit, meaning he would join them in this summer, ending his association with The Red Devils.
Old Trafford career
The 33-year-old spent eight years at Old Trafford, making over 200 appearances under Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes. Yet when the club decided not to offer him a new deal, he moved quickly to securing a move to the San Siro.
Since his summer move, Vidic has made eight appearances for Inter, but has struggled in several of them, conceding penalties and even scoring an own-goal as well.
According to some reports, the officials at Inter are growing tired of the veteran and could look to offload him in January, just months after signing him.
Vidic has given away two penalties and also been sent off already during his Inter career, and officials at the club will consider selling in the New Year if an appropriate offer comes in for him, and that has sparked interest from his former-employees.
United are desperately seeking defensive reinforcements and Vidic come become a cheap option, despite him leaving the club over the Summer.
Louis van Gaal has left his United squad very thin at the back after signing just one centre-back, Marcos Rojo, over the summer, and with numerous injuries and suspensions, the club are depleted, having to rely on youth players filling in.
Vidic is one of several centre-backs linked with an Old Trafford move, but it's believed that Van Gaal wants to sign at least two, with the Serbian considered a cheap option who could add the needed experience.
Vidic is joined by the likes of Ron Vlaar, Mats Hummels, Winston Reid and Gerard Pique on the defensive shortlist for United.
