Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas will miss Spain’s forthcoming fixtures against Belarus and Germany after failing to convince medical staff that he’s fit to play. Villarreal’s Bruno has subsequently replaced the World Cup winner.
Fabregas travelled to Madrid to undergo the medical examination on Monday, despite Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insisting the former Barcelona star was carrying a hamstring injury.
Mourinho said he had taken a “gamble” by playing Fabregas against Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime - and was adamant that Spain would be sending the player back to Stamford Bridge if they decided to call him up. The Portuguese coach has been proven right.
Fabregas sent back to Chelsea
However, the official statement from the Spanish Football Federation made it clear that they could detect no hamstring injury on the former Barcelona star. Instead, they agreed to send Fabregas back to Stamford Bridge in order to allow him to make a full recovery after experiencing discomfort during the medical tests.
Spain will now be without Fabregas, who has been one of the Premier League’s star performers so far this season, for Saturday’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Belarus. The 2008 and 2012 European Champions are currently second in Group C, having won two of their opening three matches.

Vicente del Bosque’s side are not expected to encounter too many problems in Huelva, with or without Fabregas, but they may have more trouble against world champions Germany next Tuesday.
However, that match is only a friendly, and Spain will be buoyed by the fact their revered opponents have lost three of their four matches since lifting the World Cup on July 13.
Fabregas out for three weeks?
The Express report that Fabregas could be out for the next three weeks, which would make him a doubt for Chelsea’s next match against West Brom on November 22.
But Mourinho is likely to be pleased that both Fabregas and star striker Diego Costa have both been left out of the latest Spain squad because of injury concerns. Costa was omitted from La Roja’s squad by Del Bosque because of a groin injury, and following an agreement with medical staff at Stamford Bridge.
