Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has picked up a minor injury ahead of the Netherlands' friendly clash with Mexico, reports the Guardian.
The Dutch forward, who has been the subject of much criticism this season, has endured a tricky start to the campaign under Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.
Van Persie has failed to find his best form under the new regime at the Theatre of Dreams, and will now be hoping to regain his fitness in the near future. The 31-year-old is, however, in with a chance of starring for his national side in Sunday’s Euro 2016 qualifier with Latvia.
Ahead of the Netherlands' next fixture, boss Guus Hiddink told reporters: "Van Persie is not quite fit. He trained today, but he did not fully participate. I don't think he will be used against Mexico."
It remains to be seen as to whether the experienced forward can prove his fitness in time for Sunday's crucial qualifying campaign, but the Dutch will be hoping to see their captain take to the field after a tricky post World Cup period.

Van Persie will also be hoping to use the game as a platform as he looks to rediscover his best form before returning to England.
There's no doubt about it, Van Persie will be desperate to prove his fitness before Manchester United's Premier League showdown with Arsenal at the Emirates on November 22. The Dutchman is set to star at the Emirates for the third time in a Red Devils shirt, and will be looking to find the net once again against his former side.
Both sides will be determined to secure all three points in north London after an inconsistent start to the season. Manchester United - much like Arsenal - have failed to hit top form, with the duo outside the Premier League's top four.
Manchester United moved within one point of the Gunners after their victory against Crystal Palace and will now be looking to move ahead of their rivals in the upcoming fixture.
