Galatasaray join Nemanja Vidic race

Turkish outfit Galatasaray have joined the race to sign Inter Milan defender Nemanja Vidic, according to the Daily Star.

The 33-year-old has been linked with a move back to Manchester United in recent time, despite only leaving the Theatre of Dreams at the end of last season.

Vidic, however, has endured a tricky opening period in the Serie A, which has only fuelled rumours that he could make a stunning return to England's elite division in the January transfer window.

It now appears that Galatasaray are ready to make a move for the experienced defender, but it remains to be seen as to whether he'd be interested in a move to the club or favour a move back to the Theatre of Dreams.

Vidic may yet, though, decide to stay on in the Serie A and prove his credentials as he looks to adapt to the style of football in Italy's elite division in the latter years of his career.

Manchester United fans, meanwhile, may feel indifferent by the prospect of the club landing their former captain in the next transfer window, but there's hiding from the fact that they've struggled in the defensive department of late.

In fact since Vidic's departure, with the likes of Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand also having moved on, the Red Devils have looked vulnerable at the back.

Struggling at the back

The quartet of Jonny Evans, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo have all failed to maintain their fitness throughout the campaign so far, with the likes of Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair having had to step in on occasions.

Vidic, then, would certainly prove a leader at the heart of the club's defence, but any potential deal wouldn't help the club for the long term. However, with Manchester United desperate to secure Champions League qualification this season, perhaps Vidic could inspire the club up the Premier League table in the second half of the season.
