Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour has insisted that Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic would be the perfect signing for the club, reports the Daily Star.
Matic, who rejoined the Stamford Bridge outfit in January of this year, has quickly become an integral member of the side under Jose Mourinho. The Serbian has formed quite partnership alongside Cesc Fabregas in the middle of the park, and is now recognised as one of the leading midfielders in the Premier League.
Matic is class
His performances, then, have certainly caught the eye of Parlour, who believes the 26-year-old is exactly the type of player his former club need. The Gunners have failed to protect their back-line in recent time, and are in need of a powerful midfielder to shield their defence.
And Parlour has insisted that Wenger must look to improve Arsenal defensively in the near future. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "I think he needs Matic from Chelsea, he'd be the perfect player to have just sit in front of the back four and that's what he's got to look at.
"That's what he's got to look at, he's got to look at that defensive midfielder, he's got to look at another centre half and buy defensive players now and good characters as well who can really get into players.

"I used to play in front of Lee Dixon and Tony Adams and when we were up against it they would put you in positions, exactly where they wanted you to be.
"That's where they've got to get better."
In truth, though, it's extremely unlikely that arsenal could land Chelsea's key man anytime soon, however they're certainly in need of improving their options in the middle of the park.
The Gunners have an array of attacking talent at their disposal, but have failed to mask their defensive problems of late. Without great protection at the back, the north London outfit have been shipping goals, and look in need of new additions in January.
Arsenal fans will certainly be hoping the club can take a leaf out of Chelsea's book and complete a deal for a top-class central-midfielder in the January transfer window. It remains to be seen, however, as to whether Arsene Wenger is prepared to invest in the midfield department mid-way through the season.
