Manchester United are poised to submit a £20 million offer to La Liga champions Atetico Madrid for the services of their Brazilian centre-back Miranda.
This is according to the Express, who cite reports in Spain as claiming that United will make a concerted effort to sign the 30-year-old when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Red Devils' boss Louis van Gaal is desperate to bolster his defensive options and is currently in the process of deciding which targets to submit offers for. But it seems a decision has been made with regards to Miranda, who was one of the best-performing centre-backs in Europe last season.
Miranda's sensational year
Miranda's rock-solid partnership alongside Diego Godin was one of the key reasons why Atletico not only won their first La Liga title since 1996 last season but also reached the Champions League final.
Despite his fantastic performances, Chelsea-target Miranda was surprisingly overlooked for Brazil's World Cup squad by Luiz Felipe Scolari, who must have regret not taking the La Liga star to the finals following the Seleção's humiliating 7-1 defeat to Germany.

Miranda has since earned a few more international caps after being called up by Scolari's successor, Dunga, who has made the Atletico star a key member of his defence.
United looking for Rio/Vidic replacement
Van Gaal, it seems, is also a big fan of the central defender and believes the South American can help fill the huge void left by Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, who both departed Old Trafford in the summer.
The veteran Dutch coach is also considering a move for Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar, who is out of contract at the end of the season, although few would argue that Miranda is the more complete centre-back.
Will Atletico sell?
Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels is also a Manchester United target, but it's extremely unlikely that the Bundesliga club will agree to sell their captain - while there's absolutely no chance of a deal being done in January.
It could prove to be a similar case with Atletico Madrid and Miranda. Manager Diego Simeone will be determined to keep the Brazilian at the Vicente Calderon, but a £20 million offer - for a player aged 30 - could prove too tempting to turn down.
