Current AC Milan manager Filippo Inzaghi has vowed that Fernando Torres, who is on loan from Chelsea, can rediscover the form of his glory days.

The Spaniard, who moved to Chelsea from Liverpool in the 2011/12 season for a record breaking transfer fee of £50 million, has struggled for goals ever since.

The World Cup winner notched only 45 goals in 172 appearances for the Blues; as a result, he was loaned to Milan on a two-year loan deal.

"So far Torres has been struggling with an ankle injury, but now it's better and I thought he played very well in Genoa.”

However, since joining the Rossoneri Torres has had a nightmare start, scoring only once in nine appearances. Sound familiar Chelsea fans?

Inzaghi Believes in Spaniard

The Italian legend, Inzaghi has given Torres a vote of confidence saying that he can follow in the footsteps of Hernan Crespo, who also began his career in Italy slowly, but went on to score a host of goals for both Inter and AC Milan.

Speaking to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Inzaghi said: “We're on the right track. It just takes a little bit of patience. So far a lot of players have scored goals, just not the strikers, apart from Honda.

"Goals from Torres and Pazzini will come. I hope Torres will be like Crespo under Ancelotti, who for months didn't score, then he broke his duck and became…Crespo.

Torres' Down Hill Slope

The former Chelsea frontman, who has been a shadow of the player he was for Liverpool in his heyday, has won a host of major and domestic trophies since his record-breaking transfer including: the Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup as well as the Euros for Spain.

Torres’ awful run of form, has led to Spain’s head coach, Vincente del Bosque being dropped from the international scene. The coach had to use the controversial ‘false 9’ formation at the Euros in 2012 – where Cesc Fabregas, a midfielder, was playing in the central role up front, a little further back from the striker position.

After an average 2013/14 season for the Rossoneri, they have continued the current campaign in relatively the same fashion, with only four wins in their eleven fixtures. They sit in seventh place in Serie A.
