Manchester United record signing Angel di Maria has hinted that he would like to join Paris Saint-Germain in the future.

The Argentine international was wanted by the Ligue 1 club over the summer when it became apparent that his future was no longer with Real Madrid, however PSG's Financial Fair Play sanction restricted their spending power and opened the door for the Red Devils.

"I think it was a problem of money," he told Telefoot. "They could not buy any players and I think that is the main reason I did not go to Paris. To play in a French club is something that would please a lot of players but today I play in the Premier League. But you never know.

Di Maria has enjoyed a strong start to his Manchester United move after his record £59.7 million switch to Old Trafford where he put pen to paper on a £200,000-per-week deal, but it could have been very different if PSG had come up with the cash to land him from Madrid.

Despite the near miss, Di Maria says he would be open to a move to the Parc des Prince in the future - something that will undoubtedly worry Manchester United fans.

"Could I join PSG in the future? Yes maybe. I am still young. In football, there is a lot of movement and I don't know how things will end up," he said.

Along with PSG and Manchester United, Di Maria also revealed there was plenty of interest in his signature during the summer window. "At the time, there were a lot of clubs interested," he recalled. "

There were a lot of clubs who wanted to have me. They came and went but Manchester United appeared and they never went away and because they really wanted me, I went there. That is how it happened."

So far Di Maria has three goals and nine assists for Manchester United in the Premier League, but he has been unable to help them find any real consistency under new boss Louis van Gaal. Having ended a three-game winless run with an unconvincing 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, they take on Arsenal after the international break.
