Chelsea are poised to reward midfield enforcer Nemanja Matic with a brand new contract, as the Serbian has been dominant for them since returning this January.

Matic deal

The ex-Benfica star has four years remaining on his current deal, but it’s said that Jose Mourinho is keen to see him handed improved terms, and wants to eradicate the chances of him moving to Real Madrid, who have been linked with him of late.

Matic has formed a tidy partnership in midfield with Francesc Fabregas, and his current form has seen him recognised as one of the best players in the Premier League. During Chelsea's immediate rise to the top of the Premier League, where they have sat now since the beginning of the season, Matic was an integral member, and he's continued to boss the midfield.

Lampard surprise

Meanwhile Blues hero Frank Lampard has revealed that he is surprised with just how much he has enjoyed his Manchester City experience. Lampard signed for Manuel Pellegrini’s side on loan in the summer, and bagged an equaliser against his old club when the two sides met at the Etihad.

Though the initial terms of agreement were set to see him move to the MLS - and City-affiliated outfit New York City FC - he's looking more than assured in Manuel Pellegrini's squad, and Mourinho might just be regretting his decision to let him leave for nothing at the expiration of him contract.

Other news

- Chelsea have been dealt a damning blow to any hopes they had of landing Real Madrid's Sami Khedira, as Luka Modric's three month injury layoff is likely to see him retained by his current club. Khedira has been linked with a Premier League move for some time now, but if he were to get a foothold in Ancelotti's setup his interest in a transfer would wane.

- It may look as though the race for Marco Reus isn't heading anywhere fruitful, but that's only if you don't take into account the theory that Mourinho will offer Andre Schurrle for him in exchange. The German has struggled to break into the squad this season, and could be cut loose.
