Portuguese winger Nani will return to Manchester United at the end of the season, according to ex-Sporting chief Paulo De Alvandro.
As reported by the Daily Star, De Alvandro has insisted that Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal, who sent the winger out on a season-long loan deal to the Portuguese outfit, made a mistake in allowing Nani to depart the club.
Nani failed to make an impression on Manchester United's new boss in pre-season, but has been a major hit at Sporting throughout this campaign. In fact, whilst proving his credentials in Primeira Liga, he's also been in terrific form in Europe's elite competition this term.
In four Champions League clashes for Sporting, Nani has already found the net on three occasions as he continues to excel on the top stage.
And now De Alvandro has insisted that the Red Devils boss will regret not gambling on Nani sooner, as he told reporters: "It is inevitable that Manchester United will want the player back at the end of the season.
"Van Gaal will be sorry to not have gambled on him sooner."
Nani, alongside former Red Devils teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, was back at Old Trafford last night as Portugal took on Angel di Maria's Argentina. The Portuguese ultimately secured the victory against their opponents after Raphael Guerreiro struck in stoppage time.
Di Maria injury
In the game, however, United's current No.7 Di Maria was taken down by Nani, and is now a doubt for the club's upcoming fixture with rivals Arsenal at the Emirates.
With the amount of injury problems at the Theatre of Dreams, Manchester United fans will certainly be hoping that their star winger finds his fitness in time for the showdown in north London.
Nani, on the other hand, will travel back to Portugal as he looks to continue to make his mark away from Old Trafford, but it remains to be seen if and when he will return to England's elite division.
