If you thought Manuel Neuer was the craziest keeper/sweeper around at the moment then think again - Germany might be producing a whole generation of them. At least that's what it looks like with Marvin Schwäbe's latest antics.
Germany Under-20s were playing their Polish counterparts on Tuesday night in a friendly when the ball was rolled back to the Hoffenheim star, though it wasn't the best of passes and he was faced with a Polish striker bearing down on him.
Schwäbe must have ice in his veins
At that moment many goalkeepers would have panicked and possibly done something crazy and/or stupid. The better goalkeepers would have at least suppressed the panic enough to lea the the ball out of play. Manuel Neuer would have probably done a slight feint to get himself a bit more space and continue Germany's short passing game.
Schwäbe must have ice in his veins or something, because he decided to do something insane and, probably, very very unwise. However, what is football if you can't dream? Besides, it turned out all right in the end and it was incredible entertainment!
According to 101GreatGoals, from whom we first saw the video, the Poland striker who may hesitate to ever show his face outside his house again is named Mariusz Stępiński. He will be red-faced today as pretty much all of the internet has seen Schwäbe, cute as you like, pop the ball between his legs.
Watch the video below and try to stop your sides from splitting...
We aren't sure what the best thing about it is; was it the sheer audacity in thinking it would work, or that Schwäbe looks like he might be great value for the future as a batty 'keeper.
What do you think, is this the most embarrassing thing to happen to an outfield player ever? We aren't sure it's possible to get more humiliating than this. Let us know what you thought!
