At Chelsea David Luiz garnered a reputation for himself by being a character who was just as entertaining off the pitch as he was on it.

Luiz the prankster

Yet we’ve stumbled upon footage which confirms he was a he still had that lovable nature long before he moved to Stamford Bridge in 2011. In this particular video it’s current Manchester United star Angel Di Maria who feels the true force of Luiz’s playful nature, by being the butt of one of the most hilarious pranks we’ve seen to date.

The clip appears to be from the period in time when the pair were both teammates at Benfica, and centers around the police staging an arrest for Di Maria supposedly hitting a lady whilst reversing in his car.

Despite the fact that the Argentina international continually pleads his innocence for a crime he certainly hasn’t committed, the police go on to wind him up, and even other pedestrians get involved in the act.

After some time Di Maria begins to become frustrated with his treatment, and at one point lashes out at a man who kicks him whilst also being ‘arrested.’

Handcuffs and stern words are all thrown his way, with one police officer telling him that the reason for his counterpart’s harsh attitude is that he’s a Sporting Lisbon fan.

Then, just as it would appear that the winger is finally beginning to crack Luiz appears to greet him with that trademark cheesy grin. We think on this occasion Di Maria would have been forgiven for trying to knock his teeth out.
