Arsene Wenger has revealed that he will assess Alexis Sanchez once more before this afternoon’s clash against Manchester United, as he is concerned with how the player might be faring physically.

Sanchez worry

During his pre-match press conference yesterday Wenger confirmed that there was checks yet to be done on Sanchez prior to him getting the all-clear to face Louis van Gaal’s side, and ESPN are now carrying quotes from the Gunners boss which appear to be negative.

Wenger has admitted that he is worried over the fact that Sanchez looked “jaded” heading into the international break, and though he has yet to contact the Chilean federation about their use of the player - Sanchez played 85 minutes and 90 minutes in two matches for his country - it’s thought that he believes the exertion is taking its toll.

Wenger comments

"It is a concern, of course. He looked a bit jaded just before he went and I will have to check him before Saturday," Wenger said.

"Don't ask him the question [about being fit to play] because he will say he is perfect.

If he is ruled out for the United clash then it will be a definitive blow for Arsenal, who have largely relied upon the ex-Barcelona star as their source of goals this season. The diminutive forward has been in explosive form since his summer switch from Catalonia, and the injury to Olivier Giroud has only heightened the importance of his impact.

Now, with Wenger not able to use Mesut Ozil, Laurent Koscielny, Mathieu Debuchy or Theo Walcott, he will be hoping that Sanchez can start in what could turn out to be a very important fixture.

United and Arsenal are currently separated by just one point in the table, and if Louis van Gaal’s injury-riddled squad get three points from the game the hosts will certainly be in for a flood of criticism.
