Luke Shaw spotted wearing protective boot

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw was spotted leaving the Emirates wearing a protective boot last night, reports the Express.

It appears that the Red Devils ace, who was replaced by Ashley Young in the early stages of the club's 2-1 victory over Arsenal, could be set for a period out on the sidelines after the blow, but it remains to be seen as to how serious the knock turns out to be.

Shaw struggling

When speaking about Shaw in his post match press conference, Van Gaal said: “Shaw has come back from internationals not fit enough so we made him fit, but then he gets injured again.

“Then I have to give Young a game but Young is not fit enough to play 90 minutes. I have said this before. Then I have to change the line-up again.

“I think the players have done fantastic. Tyler Blackett, Paddy McNair and Luke Shaw, how old are they?

“So when you play against a team like Arsenal, a team that are always changing position, you have to have communication.

“I think that is pretty good, but I was not pleased with the overall performance.”

Manchester United fans will certainly be hoping that the defender makes a quick recovery, with the club enduring quite the injury crisis in the defensive department.

Injured stars

As well as Shaw, the Old Trafford outfit are without the likes of Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Marcos Rojo and Rafael da Silva.

Manchester United's makeshift defence did, however, play a key role in helping the side secure their first away victory of the season yesterday, as the likes of Paddy McNair, Tyler Blackett and Chris Smalling all impressed at the Emirates.

With Manchester United next in action against Hull City next weekend, Van Gaal will be hoping to have one or two key players back in contention for the clash.
