The Dutch international has been heavily linked with a move away from the Red Devils after suffering a serious dip in form following the arrival of Louis van Gaal.

A recent report in the London Evening Standard even suggested that Manchester United will look to sell Van Persie at the end of the season to avoid paying the £10 million loyalty bonus he's set to receive at the end of his four-year contract.

But, when speaking about his side's Premier League title chances the 31-year-old spoke openly about both his and the club's future aspirations, suggesting that they'd collectively challenge for top spot next season if it's not possible to catch Chelsea or Manchester City this year.

"This year it's still possible as we've only played [a quarter] of our games, we're aiming for this year but it will be very hard," Van Persie explained. "If not this year then hopefully next year."
