RG3 benched, but Cowboys' Jerry Jones still loves him

Robert Griffin III has been benched for the second straight season, but this time it has nothing to do with injuries. Rather, it has been decided that RG3 is not up to scratch and that journeyman QB Colt McCoy is the better option for Washington.

Cue discussions league-wide about the Redskins decision and what it means for RG3's career in the capital.

Well, essentially his career in Washington is over. But where to next? Surely not to a divisional rival? Actually, crazier things have happened and guess who came out today and professed his love for all things RG3 just after his career with his current team was placed on life support? That's right, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones of course.

Jerry is an RG3 lover

"Well, I'm a fan of RG3," Jones told NFL Network, via "Right on this field two years ago, or maybe it was three seasons ago, he put on a show and had a game that just floored me.

"And they won, and they won in large part because of his play at quarterback. I thought 'my goodness, and we're going to have to be playing this guy for years and years.' And so he's got it.

"Once you see a player do it, especially if you see him do it two or three times, you know he can do it. And of course he's a driven young man. I'm a big admirer of RG3."

Cowboys should make a play

The thought of RG3 signing for the Dallas Cowboys during the offseason may seem fanciful to some, maybe even scary for some Cowboys fans, but the reality is that it would be a good move for both Dallas and RG3.

As this season has shown, Dallas are in serious need of a decent back-up QB. Brandon Weeden is just simply not good enough to deputise for Tony Romo, who at the moment doesn't look like he will ever be able to complete a full NFL season due to injury complications.

RG3 on the other hand needs time away from the starting role. He needs to play behind a QB with the hope of eventually being able to take the mantle over at number one spot.

It would be perfect for the Cowboys because Tony Romo only has a couple of years left really. This way RG3 can be a back-up and learn the game more, and in time, Dallas will find out whether or not RG3 really is as good as his rookie season made him out to be.
