Manchester United have suffered a setback in their pursuit of young Brazilian playmaker Lucas Silva. The Cruzeiro midfielder is attracting serious interest from Real Madrid.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Madrid will look to pay around €12 million for the talented youngster who is viewed as a replacement for Sami Khedira.
As things stand however, Cruzeiro are holding out for around €15 million, but the deal doesn't seem to be far off being completed. That means Manchester United will have to go back to the drawing board, just a day after the player's agent confirmed talks with the Red Devils were ongoing.
Falcao could be replaced by Cavani
Also in the transfer market it’s being claimed that the Red Devils won’t offer Radamel Falcao a permanent move to Old Trafford - and have identified Edison Cavani as his replacement.
Falcao joined on loan in the summer but the Colombian has a clause in his contract which allows him to join the Red Devils for around £43 million at the end of the current campaign. However injury has stopped him from having the desired impact.
That could prompt Manchester United to pass up on the chance to sign him, and if that does happen the Express say that Edinson Cavani could be lined up as a replacement. The Uruguayan hitman would cost around £50 million however.
Shaw out with ankle injury
There was yet more bad injury news for Manchester United with Luke Shaw set to be ruled out until the new year with ankle ligament damage. The young full-back could be out for up to six weeks after limping off against Arsenal.
However Marcos Rojo and Falcao are back in contention - and the striker could replace Robin van Persie who may be dropped for the game against Hull this weekend.
