If you were asked to name some of the best teams in Europe, how many off you would have FC Porto in the top 10? Not many.

Porto have been synonymous with breading Europe’s finest managers and players.
Unfortunately for them their financial situation means they have to continuously sell their prised assets.

When you actually look at the teams they have had in the past and they could have ruled Europe for a number of years.

Ten years since Champions League win

It’s been 10 years since they burst on the scene winning the Champions League on the back of their UEFA Cup win in 2003.

If they managed to keep hold on to some of the players they have produced over the years they would be a real contender to win the Champions League year in year out.

Come the transfer window in a month’s time their resolve will be tested again as the vultures will be circling around the Portuguese club.

Looking at the players and managers that have left the club over the years, the line up they could have fielded would have struck fear into every team in Europe.

With Jose Mourinho as manager and Andre Villas-Boas as his assistant, who won the treble in his first season in charge back in 2011.

Potential line-up

The starting line up would consist of: Fabiano; Danilo, Mangala, Pepe, Alex Sandro; Fernando, James Rodriguez, Joao Moutinho; Quaresma, Falcao, Hulk

Subs: Otamendi, Bruno Alves, Raul Meireles, Anderson, Diego

Very soon you could add Jackson Martinez and Yacine Behrami to that list as clubs are keeping a close on these promising players too.

It’s not a nice thing to see when a club creates a strong, competitive team and bigger clubs come in and rip them apart but that’s the nature of the footballing beast.
