The ever growing list of midfielders that Arsene Wenger is circulating has just become even bigger with Cruzeiro starlet, Lucas Silva, added to the mix.

Arsenal have been linked with all sorts of midfielders as the highly anticipated January transfer marked edges ever closer to opening. Sami Khedira was one of the first with Yohan Cabaye, Moussa Sissoko and James McCarthy being the latest.

But now it's the turn of Cruzeiro midfielder Lucas Silva to top the rumour list at the Emirates. However, tipped as the new "Kaka" by scouts and Brazilian critics, this may just be one chunk of gossip that may become true.

Rated at a bargain of £12 million due to his ripe age of 21, the Brazilian has spent all of his playing career with Cruzeiro with the exception of a loan move to Nacional-MG in 2012.

His defensive duties may come in handy to replace the injured Jack Wilshere or Mikel Arteta and with three goals in 44 appearances, his experience is skyrocketing in the Campeonato Mineiro, which is the equivalent to the Premier League.

Champions League qualification rivals Chelsea and Manchester United are both in the running for the 21-year-old, however, and due to their increasing superiority, a move to either of those two clubs may take Silva's fancy.

But Arsene Wenger will not give up so easily on the starlet. With Arsenal's board willing to increase the Frenchman's transfer budget in order to find quality replacements for their injury concerns, the Gunners boss may be forced into offering Cruzeiro a little more than he would first request, but it may be enough to prize the youngster to the Emirates.

It is reported by the Daily Express that Arsenal scouts have just returned to North London with important information requiring the midfielder. Their reports have pleased Arsene Wenger, and a subsequent £12 million offer is expected to be made in the coming days.
