It has been a big year for Michael Sam, he became the first openly gay player drafted into the NFL and since then, his life has been watched very closely.
Sam was drafted by the St Louis Rams in the seventh round of this years raft but never made the cut for their season roster.
He then moved over to the Dallas Cowboys as a member of their practice squad in early September but was waived by the team towards the end of October.
He was watched heavily by all ever since he was drafted and was even rumoured to be part of a TV show chronicling his career.
The TV show with well known personality Oprah Winfrey faced a lot of criticism and was eventually postponed.

Despite Sam no longer a part of the NFL, he is still very well known around America and has made some fairly suggestive claims about the league.

Sam was asked if he thought NFL teams were shying away from him due to his sexual orientation and his answer certainly hinted that way.
Many have spoken in support of Sam and his ability on the field and the reason he was never taken up by the Rams and Cowboys may never be known.
The former University of Missouri star is still working towards his dream of appearing in the NFL but has conceded his chances of appearing on Oprah's TV show are minimal.
Destined for controversy
Sam had been a projected third or fourth round draftee but slipped all the way to the seventh round and from the moment the Rams took him, we all knew he would be heavily watched.
He was often the subject of headlines and when he was cut by the Rams, many were wondering if it was due to his sexual orientation.
Perhaps very unfairly, Sam was put on a pedestal and watched closely and that may have put added pressure on the rookie.
He may still be harbouring hopes of joining the NFL someday but his quotes at LAX could make teams a little tentative to pick him up.
