Football News

Boston Celtics fans have had a good reason to be worried over the last few days ever since their star player Rajon Rondo was seen having breakfast with LA Lakers star Kobe Bryant.

The two were seen dining together on Thursday morning and rumours have really escalated from there.

Rondo will be a free agent in the summer and Thursday's social appointment has sparked rumours of him being with the Lakers next year.

It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility, the Celtics undoubtedly want to re-sign Rondo but could a move to the West be in store?

The two will take to the court against each other Friday night with the two teams both looking for a crucial win.

ESPN took the meal to mean that there was the topic of the impeding free agency for Rondo and they asked America if Rondo should be with the Celtics next year, or another team?

A whopping 79% of the 63,000+ fans who voted think Rondo's time in Boston should come to an end.

However the Celtics received some good news ahead of Friday's game when sources claimed that the talks over breakfast were purely social.

Kobe claiming he wasn't on a recruitment drive when he met with Rondo will be good news to the Celtics fans, but given his quotes, can they really believe him?

Kobe has long since made known his admiration of the Point Guard and has spoken about the idea of him in LA several times before.

"I love everything about him. Everything. I love his attitude, I love his chippiness, his edge, his intellect, his know-it-allness. All of it. That's what makes championship players." - Kobe Bryant on Rondo in 2013

Boston getting desperate?

Rondo may have helped the Celtics overcome the Lakers in the 2008 NBA Finals but the two teams have certainly fallen from grace in recent years.

Prior to tonight's game, the Lakers were 5-14 while the Celtics were 5-11 with just two wins in their last nine games.

However a win over the Detroit Pistons in Boston's last game has got them looking for two straight when they welcome the Lakers.

The Lakers may be struggling on the season, but of late they have began to pull themselves together with two wins in their last three.

Including a surprising victory over the Toronto Raptors who are currently the number one seed in the Eastern Conference.

Whoever wins the clash tonight, it will be interesting to see who can push on from the victory and attempt to build a winning streak.
