This week’s episode of NXT was the final stop before the fourth NXT Takeover special next week, with Baron Corbin and Bull Dempsey in action, whilst Hideo Itami and Finn Balor teamed up before their big tag team match at R Evolution.

Charlotte was also in non-title action in preparation for her big title defence next week against Sasha Banks whilst the Vaudevillians competed in an important tag team match to gain momentum before the NXT Tag Team Championship clash next week against The Lucha Dragons and NXT Takeover: R Evolution.

Last week on NXT Tyler Breeze opened up the show with a victory over the recently-bald Marcus Louis who was still coming to terms with his hair loss. Carmella was in action as she took on – and defeated – Old Blue Pants who was Carmella’s first opponent when she debuted on NXT.

The Lucha Dragons were in action last week where they defeated the team of Tye Dillinger and Jason Jordan, thanks to the Salida Del Sol courtesy of Kalisto before another Kevin Owens vignette was shown, announcing his arrival at NXT Takeover: R Evolution.

Bayley was attacked by Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks as the NXT Women’s Championship match was announced for next week. In the main event Finn Balor made his singles debut against Tyson Kidd and was on course to picking up a clean win but had to settle for a disqualification victory as The Ascension took him out before Hideo Itami evened the odds.

This week on NXT it was Charlotte who was kicking off the show, the NXT Women’s Champion was in non-title action against Mia Yim. Charlotte started off by paying homage to her father Ric Flair with a ‘Woo’ chant before throwing Yim into the corner. Following a slap to her back Charlotte hit the Natural Selection for the victory inside a minute. After the match Sasha Banks made her way to the ring, wearing a Charlotte shirt and told Charlotte to give her the belt now. There’s back and forth insults to one another and why one is better than the other as Bayley then made her way out in crutches who tries to verbally attack Sasha Banks but is kicked on the knew by Banks. Sasha tried to cheap shot Charlotte and dragged her to the ring and ordered a referee to the ring but Becky Lynch came in from behind as Sasha Banks stood tall before their match next week.

The Vaudevillians were in action next against the Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake and there was no way the Vaudevillians were going to be losing a week before their big championship match. Nevertheless both teams got in some great offence as Simon Gotch held Buddy Murphy in an Indian Deathlock whilst performing Hindu squats. Wesley Blake ate a Whirling Dervish to give the Vaudevillians the victory.

Backstage, William Regal was with Tyler Breeze who hadn’t seen Marcus Louis since he wandered off after his match with Breeze last week. Tyson Kidd entered the frame and told Regal he wanted a rematch with Finn Balor. William Regal instead made it a tag team match as Tyson Kidd would team up with Tyler Breeze in the main event as they’d take on Hideo Itami and Finn Balor.

The next two matches were a total of 33 seconds in total and you’d be correct in guessing Bull Dempsey and Baron Corbin were involved. This week it was Bull Dempsey in action first as he took on Elias Samson as the fans started to count right from the opening bell, Dempsey tackled Samson before hitting a flying headbutt to finish the match in 22 seconds.

Baron Corbin next and his Steve Cutler was his victim this week. Nothing new from Corbin apart from the same old dominance, the opening bell followed by the End of Days for an 11 second win. Interestingly though, this time Bull Dempsey was watching on from the stage.

Before the main event we were treated to another Kevin Owens video package and this one was the best yet. In the video, Owens was talking about how he has fought and teamed with Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan, Adrian Neville and Sami Zayn – who was dubbed as his best friend. He mentioned how the WWE decided to call them all first but now it’s his turn; expect an explosive debut next week which would impact the outcome of the NXT Championship match.

The main event of the evening and an explosive start from Itami and Balor. Itami hit Tyson Kidd with a shoulder block resulting in Tyson Kidd wanting nothing to do with Itami and tagged in Tyler Breeze straight away. Itami worked on Tyler Breeze’ shoulder before tagging in Finn Balor and hit a power slam followed by a double foot stop. He then missed a clothesline as Kidd tagged himself in and took down Finn Balor from behind.

Tyler Breeze and Tyson Kidd wore down Finn Balor for the majority of the match until Hideo Itami finally got inside the ring. He took out both Breeze and Kidd and a missile drop kick only got him a two count. Finn Balor hit a double foot stomp on Tyler Breeze as Hideo Itami went back inside the ring after taking on Tyson Kidd, and hit a huge kick to the side of Tyler’s head for the victory.

After their match, Finn Balor was on the microphone and told The Ascension to bring everything they have next week as they’re going to be showing The Ascension something they’ve never seen before.

Still time for Adrian Neville and Sami Zayn to close off the show as Neville told the fans that a lot of people are talking about the match between himself and Sami Zayn and tells them that he will defeat Zayn next week at any cost. He isn’t proud over the manner in which he has picked up his victories but mentions that Zayn doesn’t have the killer instinct to win the big one. Sami Zayn made his way to the ring and told Adrian Neville that he’s getting really ‘pissed off’ at Neville being overly nice and that he’s done well for himself and that has nothing to do with Adrian Neville.

Adrian Neville tells Sami that he respects him and it will be an honour to face him next week, Neville offered a handshake but Zayn was having none of it. He told Neville it wasn’t all about respect and then slapped Neville in the face. He told him that Neville won’t get to end him because it’s going to be Sami Zayn who ends Adrian Neville’s story and takes the NXT Championship; powerful stuff from Sami Zayn before his huge championship opportunity next week at NXT Takeover: R Evolution.
