Help Brendan Rodgers appeal launched by Manchester United fans

Liverpool hit rock bottom last night as they stumbled to a 1-1 draw with Basel in the Champions League, meaning they missed out on qualification for the last 16 of Europe's top club competition.

Instead they'll drop down to the Europa League - which boss Brendan Rogers tried to convince himself and anyone who will listen that it's a "prestigious tournament" - following a dire Champions League campaign in which they won just one game.

Even that was a lucky victory too, they needed a late penalty to overcome Bulgarian outfit Ludogorets.

Things aren't much better in the Premier League either. They're down in ninth and are six points adrift of West Ham who currently occupy fourth spot. To make matters worse, they take on fierce rivals Manchester United at the weekend, and a loss in that game is almost unthinkable.

When you throw into the mix that Rogers' job is on the line, his summer signings have ben called into question and captain Steven Gerrard's future is in doubt, it's fair to say things aren't exactly going well at Liverpool this year.

How things have changed from last season. With 35 games gone Liverpool were at the top of the table, only for them to slip up against Chelsea and Crystal Palace and throw away their first Premier League crown. It's all been downhill from there.

So what do you need when you're at your lowest ebb? Merciless mocking from rival fans of course. Manchester United fan group FullTimeDevils have put together this hilarious appeal to help Rodgers at Christmas, urging fans from across the country to chip in a few quid in order to 'help him sign more Southampton players' amongst other things.

"Just £3 will help make Brendan Rodgers life a little easier at Christmas' goes the voice over while images of the Liverpool boss looking down and out flash up. We're starting to think that £3 might not be enough actually.
