Football fan misses out on £3000 with Champions League bet

Football News

This is pretty much every football fan who likes a flutter's worst nightmare. Are you sitting comfortably? Good, because this is the story of a young chap called Jordan Smith, and it's a lesson for us all to learn.

One day, Jordan decided he'd have a bet. Let's push the boat out he thought. Let's bang a big 17p on a four-way accumulator that will never come in. Can you see where this is going yet?

Of course the big bet came in. Barcelona did indeed beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-1. Bayern Munich obliged by beating CSKA Moscow 3-0, while Manchester City did their job and swept past Roma 2-0. The icing on the cake? Chelsea did their thing and recorded a 3-1 victory against Sporting Lisbon.

Just like that, 17p had been transformed into £3,140. The young chap was going to have a very good Christmas indeed. Or, he would have had, HAD HE NOT CASHED OUT FOR £4.58!

Yep that's right, our protagonist couldn't bear the thought of losing his 17p so thought he's get one over on the bookies by taking them for all they were worth, which turned out to be just under a fiver.

And when the depressingly inevitable happened, dear Jordan maintained his dignity. Even though he made a mistake, he wasn't going to go crawling back to the bookmakers in question. No no no.

Oh wait, that's exactly what he did.

Still, he did come to terms with what he had done by the end of the night, and it seems all of us can learn from his mistakes.

The moral of the story is this; don't ever settle for taking home 4.58 on a 17p bet when you could win over £3,000. Just so you know, if it ever happens to you.
