WWE TLC: Preview and predictions

This Sunday the Tables, Ladders, Chairs…and Stairs pay-per-view will take place at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio and an impressive nine matches have been announced for the event thus far.

Barring any last minute additions or impromptu matches being announced on the evening itself, these night matches look set to be the final matches in what has shaped up to be a very good card considering the WWE World Heavyweight Championship won’t be defended on a pay-per-view once more.

Nevertheless a lot is on the line with four championships being defended, John Cena’s number one contender spot is up in the air whilst we also have our very first stairs match.

It’s unclear as to who will be representing The New Day just yet and in all honesty I’ve not warmed up to them right now and I hope that does change as they’re all brilliant athletes. They need to rack up a few wins to be taken more seriously in the tag team division and unfortunately for Star and Goldust they’ll be the victims to make The New Day look stronger. I believe The New Day will pick up the victory.

Fellow GiveMeSport Lead WWE Writer Phillipa Hopwood shares a similar view: It’s sad that these guys have been relegated to the kick-off show when they were only tag team champions a few months back and The New Day are looking a forced to be reckoned with already. I’m unsure which duo will represent The New Day because all three are great competitors but I think whoever it is they will get the advantage in what will turn out to be a rather technical match. I think Star and Goldust are dropping down the ranks a bit now and they could be used to put The New Day over further.

I’ve said it numerous times, Rusev won’t be defeated clean until WrestleMania XXXI and perhaps after that. He is being built up as a true monstrous heel and he’s steamrolled through everyone who has stood opposite him, including Jack Swagger so why should the outcome be different this time? There’s no way Rusev is ready to submit to anyone let alone somebody he has already defeated. Sure, Swagger will be more fired up this time round with Rusev breaking Zeb Colter’s leg, but the end result will still be the same as Rusev crushes Jack Swagger.

Phillipa: I think this match could be the match that Rusev finally gets pinned. Jack had a feud with Rusev a while back and was well and truly conquered, I think he has taken points from this and with America on his side and with him fighting for Zeb, I think Jack Swagger’s passion could overcome Rusev’s power.

It won’t be too long until Damien Mizdow and The Miz go their separate ways but with Naomi now involved in the feud with The Usos, it looks like we might have to wait a little while longer for that to happen. Damien Mizdow is white hot right now and I doubt the WWE will have them drop the gold so soon, I expect the feud between The Miz and Jimmy Uso to continue for a while longer but on Sunday, The Miz and Damien Mizdow will retain the titles.

Phillipa: The tension between the tag team champions was very much apparent at the Slammy’s when Damien won an award and The Miz didn’t but he still made it all about him. The crowd also prefer Mizdow over The Miz and I think this at some point is going to lead to their downfall. Bring Naomi into the situation and it could go either way with many distractions presenting themselves, but I feel this rivalry will continue a little longer, Damien Mizdow and The Miz to retain.

Erick Rowan is doing brilliantly as a face as a man of few words and it’s surprising to see how popular he still is after The Wyatt Family split. Big Red has been handed a big task in trying to take down The Big Show using the steel steps and a victory for him would be a huge boost for him, but I don’t think the WWE will make things go so smoothly for Rowan and The Big Show will show why he is a monster to be afraid of, I believe The Big Show will win.

Phillipa: Who would have thought that all three members of The Wyatt Family would be in separate stipulation matches at a pay-per-view in 2014 after how dominant they were at the beginning of the year? But Rowan seems to have been the only member to come out as a face and took exception to The Big Show turning on Team Cena at Survivor Series. The two are in a unique Steel Stars match and anything can happen in this match, but I can only see one clear winner in Erick Rowan.

I don’t know many people who are genuinely excited for a chairs match between Kane and Ryback but nevertheless it allows the WWE to continue building Ryback up as the monster he was in 2012 and a victory over Kane would be a big win. A loss would do no harm to Kane whereas for Ryback it wouldn’t look good considering he was the first to be eliminated in the Survivor Series match, so I think Ryback will win this one.

Phillipa: This is a feud that has come from nothing, and seems to have heated up overnight, two of the big monsters in WWE right now collide as they go one on one with chairs as their chosen weapon. Kane hasn’t had a whole lot of in ring action alone whilst he was in The Authority so it will be good to see how he fares up when he’s on his own, or if Seth Rollins returns the many favours he has done for him over the last few months. Ryback will defeat Kane.

Dolph Ziggler is coming off a massive victory at the Survivor Series pay-per-view where nobody expected him to be the sole survivor in a match of that magnitude and it’s only right that Ziggler gets another crack at Luke Harper and the Intercontinental Championship. Unfortunately for Ziggler, I highly doubt the WWE will have Harper drop the gold so soon after winning it a he looks like an imposing champion who can realistically hold the gold for months. I think Ziggler and Harper will put on a fantastic match, perhaps a match of the night contender but I do think Luke Harper will retain his Intercontinental Championship.

Phillipa: Since Survivor Series Dolph Ziggler has become a household name, it was the biggest win of his career and he is still riding the storm that has followed. I think he has a big chance over Luke Harper on Sunday because the former Wyatt Family member won’t have any help from The Authority in this match and his former teammate Erick Rowan could make an appearance, Dolph Ziggler to win.

I believe this should be the main event but the likelihood is that Cena and Rollins will have the responsibility of closing out the show. This feud has now been taken up a notch and we’re now seeing an ever more intense side to Bray Wyatt and that will only bring out the best of both men on Sunday. I think regardless of the outcome, the WWE could probably squeeze in one more match out of the two especially after the disqualification finish to set up this TLC match. With The Ascension’s arrival not too far away and the rumours circulating that they’ll debut on the main roster alongside The Wyatt Family, I doubt this feud will end right now. Ambrose may have lost the last match but he was the man standing tall at the conclusion so I doubt Ambrose will be in the same position once again; Bray Wyatt will win.

Phillipa: The messiah of The Wyatt Family is looking to take on a new follower and it seems he has decided upon Dean Ambrose. The former Shield member has fought valiantly against Bray since his sneak attack at Hell in a Cell and after Dean was disqualified at Survivor Series, it seemed this was the best way for both men to settle their differences. I think Dean Ambrose will come out on top here and then it could come down to a decided between the two in the near future.

If the rumours surrounding AJ Lee’s departure are true then it’s a very sad day for the diva’s division and it only means Nikki Bella will retain. I won’t be surprised if the rumours are proven false once more but I do think regardless of whether AJ sticks around or not, Nikki Bella will remain the champion.

Phillipa: Sadly the AJ Lee departure speculation seems to be leading up to the TLC pay-per-view and since she’s cashing in her rematch clause, she wouldn’t have anything to hang around for. The speech at the Slammy's is regarded backstage as her departure speech so this weekend could be the last we see of the most influential diva of the last few years. Nikki is a solid odds on to retain her title because her recent push has seen her improve on the mic and in the ring and she could dawn in a new era after AJ; Nikki Bella will retain her gold.

John Cena has a lot more to lose in this match than Seth Rollins and Cena has been on the back foot for the last two weeks. I hope this match lives up to the expectations but I highly doubt John Cena won’t be the number one contender after months of rumours surrounding a Royal Rumble clash with Brock Lesnar. I think John Cena will defeat Seth Rollins – setting up another feud between Brock Lesnar and John Cena and don’t be surprised to see Randy Orton cost Seth Rollins the victory.

Phillipa: The main event sees John Cena battle the sell out in what is hopefully going to be a stand out bout. Many people are unhappy that Dean and Seth aren't main eventing the final pay-per-view of the year to end what would be a dominant year for the two but with the added stipulation you have to feel John Cena will up his game. Hopefully Seth Rollins comes out on top to gain some heat with Brock and stop us all having to sit through another Cena vs. Brock match at The Rumble, Seth Rollins will defeat John Cena.
