River Plate manager breaks down in tears after Copa Sudamericana victory

River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo got caught up in the emotion after his side's 2-0 Copa Sudamericana final victory on Wednesday night.

The 38-year-old, who earned 44 caps for Argentina during his playing career, is in his first year with Los Millonarios and has brought instant success back to Buenos Aires.

Mother's death

But, following the death of his mother two weeks ago, it all became too much for the former attacking midfielder, who was giving a passionate interview in the immediate aftermath of victory.

With one of the biggest microphones in the world thrust in his face, Gallardo managed to maintain his composure for almost a minute, as he eyes began to well-up with the thought of what just happened.

You certainly don't need to know the language to recognise that this was a moment of pure joy mixed with the pain of the loss of his mother, and you can watch the video below...
