Premier League side Arsenal are ready to sell two of their first-team players in order to raise funds to sign two of Serie A's top stars, reports the Metro.
The Gunners, who are reportedly ready to splash the cash in January in order to catch Premier League leaders Chelsea, are willing to sell attacking-duo Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell, so that they can bring in Napoli's Marek Hamsik and AS Roma's Mattia Destro.
Despite Arsenal desperate for defensive reinforcements in the New Year, they may also add attacking fire-power due to injuries mounting in the midfielder.
Arsene Wenger is currently without Mikel Arteta, Abou Diaby, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott, and is reportedly keen on signing new faces in January with funds available.
To make room for new signings, Wenger will have to sell first, and according to numerous reports, it looks likely that it will be Podolski and Campbell on their way out.
Podolski has been strongly linked with a departure since returning from the World Cup, and despite Wenger saying he's not for sale, the German has been keen to hold talks with the manager in order to resolved his future.
The World Cup winner is not happy with his bit-part role within the first-team and isn't happy with his role on the substitute bench, and with German boss Joachim Lowe pushing him to leave, the 29-year-old could finally be set for the exit door.
As for Campbell, despite him shining for Olympiakos last season and then having a solid World Cup for Costa Rica, he too has been limited to sub appearances much to his frustration.
The youngster was set to leave the club on loan in the summer, but Wenger cancelled the deal insisting that he had a role in the first-team, but since then he has only featured frequently, much to the Costa Rican's frustrations.
Serie A Interest
According to reports, Arsenal will look to sell Podolski and Campbell before spending the money on Destro from Roma, who they were interested in over the summer, and Hamsik from Napoli, who has been strongly linked with the Premier League for sometime now.
Destro was a £15million target of both Chelsea and Arsenal over the Summer, but nothing materialised, and as for Hamsik, he's also been scouted by Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City ahead of a possible £20m move.
