NFL Week 16 Pick'em: Packers and Eagles to storm back in early games

The NFL enters the penultimate week of the season, so lets preview the games and pick
some winners.

Philadelphia Eagles @ Washington Redskins - EAGLES WIN

Even if the Eagles win their remaining games they could still miss out on the playoff. It's better to miss out on the playoffs because you lost to the likes of the Seahawks, Cardinals, Cowboys, Packers and 49ers, then it is to miss out because you were beaten by the 2014 Washington Redskins.

Fortunately for the Eagles fans it isn't going to happen. Washington is in complete meltdown. By the end of the season they will either have jettisoned a QB they mortgaged the franchise on or the QB will have seen off another head coach. We can expect to see the Eagles offense, defense and special teams all scoring points in what will likely be a huge victory.

San Diego Chargers @ San Francisco 49ers - CHARGERS WIN

The 49ers head coach Harbaugh has pretty much checked out already and it's likely that the players are helping him pack his bags and preparing to throw a celebratory party once the plane to Michigan has taken off.

The Chargers by contrast have everything to play for. If they win the next two games and it is hello post-season. When one team is motivated to win and the other isn't, it isn't hard to pick who is going to win.

Atlanta Falcons @ New Orleans Saints - FALCONS WIN

Mike Smith is being understandably coy about the fitness of Julio Jones, but with the season on the line it would be a major surprise if the star wide receiver doesn't make it onto the gridiron. If Jones is anywhere near fit he should make the difference against a Saints team whose Superdome fortress has been breached this season.

Detroit Lions @ Chicago Bears - LIONS WIN

The best defense in the NFL is going up against Jimmy Clausen. The only good news here is for fantasy owners of Matt Forte because, the Bears are going to run the ball a lots and Clausen is going to check down to Forte frequently. There is only one outcome here.

Cleveland Browns @ Carolina Panthers - PANTHERS WIN

With Manziel struggling to adapt to life in the NFL it is impossible to see anything other than a Panthers win here.

Truthfully, the most interesting angle for this game isn't so much the result but the performance of each QB. Will Manziel show signs of adapting to the pro game? More seriously, will Newton be able to bounce back from his car accident? Lets hope the Panthers win in order to set up a potential barn-burner against the Falcons in week 17.

Green Bay Packers @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers - PACKERS WIN

The Buffalo defense may have been able to put a muzzle on Aaron Rodgers but the difference between the Buccaneers defense and the Bills defense is night and day. Rodgers and the Packers offense will bounce back to form here against a poor Tampa Bay side. It's just a shame, for the Packers, that the defeat last week means they likely won't be the number one seed in the NFC because, it is hard to see them beating Seattle in Seattle.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Pittsburgh Steelers - STEELERS WIN

It's do or die time for both teams. Both teams have legitimate playoff aspirations and neither team can afford to lose.

Looking at both sides it is fair to say that they have some big weaknesses but also the potential to deliver huge performances. The problem for Kansas City is that these performances all come from Jamaal Charles whilst the Steelers have Bell, Big Ben and Brown. This superior strength in depth should see the Steelers through.

Minnesota Vikings @ Miami Dolphins - DOLPHINS WIN

With their playoff hopes on life support this is probably another lost season for the Dolphins. They should have enough about themselves to pick up a win against the Vikings however. Expect to see two things from this match up.

Firstly, expect to see the Bill Lazor step up a gear on offense as he continues his audition to replace Joe Philbin as Head Coach. Secondly, expect to see the Dolphins defense storm back to form with an aggressive performance.

New England Patriots @ New York Jets - PATRIOTS WIN

The Patriots are the better team in pretty much every single position. It is hard to make the case that any Jets would make it into the Patriots team. They have already wrapped up the AFC East and have now turned all their attention to getting that 1st seeding in the playoffs and the pursuant, crucial, home advantage. Like the first game earlier in the season Rex Ryan and the Jets will put up a fight but they are outmatched.

Baltimore Ravens @ Houston Texans - RAVENS WIN

The Ravens will rightly feel confident going into this game. J.J. Watt will no doubt keep Joe Flacco on his toes and looking over his shoulder but with the uber-raw Tom Savage at quarterback this one won't even be close.
