Shakira unhappy with Gerard Pique for playing Lionel Messi out of position

Gerard Pique knows a thing or two about football, so he must have been pretty surprised when he received a telling off over his tactical nous from his wife, international pop star Shakira.

The Barcelona defender has won La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey - but that didn't stop the Colombian pop star wading into the debate when he posted his Dream XI team on his Facebook page.

All the right people were there - there was Cesc Fabregas in midfield, Iker Casillas in goal, Cristiano Ronaldo on the left, Lionel Messi on the right.....

It was the placement of Messi that irked Shakira so much that she decided to respond to her husband's post by publicly calling him out. Along with an image of the Barcelona star's team, the Hips Don't Lie singer wrote: "Love... What are you doing with Leo Messi at the right? He is Center Forward, wake up!"

Quick to avoid a marital dust up, Pique fired back at his wife, responding: "I know what I’m doing, babe! I got my strategy, wait and see!"

Regardless of where he is played Messi has had a year to remember; he helped Argentina reach the World Cup final and broke the records for most goals in La Liga and in the Champions League.

Things haven't been going so well on the pitch for Barcelona in general though, and after manager Tata Martino departed over the summer the Catalan club have looked a little inconsistent under Luis Enrique.

They are a point behind Real Madrid in the Spanish league, which is no mean feat given that Los Blancos are in the midst of an unbelievable 21-game winning run.

If they are struggling to get going when trophies are being handed out in May, perhaps they should consider playing Lionel Messi on the right side after all....
